Teacher comment

Andrew you were not only dedicated in the amount of work and new learning that you applied to your passion project which enabled you to achieve great results, but you also used a range of habits of mind on a daily basis and could discuss these and how they helped you achieve what you did with the computer games that you created. This coupled with the thorough way you recorded your changes in understanding and your progress and new learning in both your blog and keynote made your passion project an example to your peers.
Great work Andrew.

Passion Project Process

In my passion project I had to make a keynote about my process for sharing night and as a way of recording my new learning. The Enrich teachers decided to put them on our blogs. My one is about the process I went through with Atmosphir and Scratch.

Final Day!!!!!!!!

I just can't believe it's our final day of our passion projects! Today I have been doing finishing touches on my keynote because it's sharing nigh tonight! Other things we have been doing to prepare for sharing night are practising presenting our passion projects to another person. I've also been working on a new Scratch game, but it sadly didn't get finished. I've also been doing the rubric (which will be posted below). I'm sad that it is the end but very proud of myself and what I've accomplished.

Self Assessment Rubric

Since its the last day of our passion projects(sorry about the last post it was actually the second last day) we have to review how we went in our passion projects. This year five passion project rubric is how we show it. It has four categories where you highlight where you are(beginning, at and above). Then you write down how you achieved it. Then it also asks you 'What would you do differently' and 'What the teachers could change that would help next time.

Today at Enrich 17/11/10

It's the last day of our passion projects!!! Today I have finished my Scratch and Atmosphir comparison(it should be below). I've also updated my passion project process keynote to my fullest content. We had Gretchen and James come in and tell us tips on preparing for the sharing night and how to share on sharing night. I also put some extras bits onto my scratch game.

My Scratch and Atmosphir Comparison

Since I've basically finished with Scratch I decided to compare Scratch and Atmosphir. I was hoping to find a winner on which one was the better game programme but it tied. Having a tie I was a little disappointed but I'm still happy that I made the comparison.

Today at Enrich 10/11/10

It's the second last day of my Passion Project already! Today I have been trying to relax as we have Gussy Johnson, speech person in to help our Oral Language and we had some children from the Central Otago Gifted school to see what we've been doing. They come from Ettrick, Alexandra, Clyde and Cromwell. I put some more things onto my game and finished my scratch Pros and Cons(which should be below). Next week I am going to wrap everything up, and be ready for sharing night where I tell my parents what I've been doing in my passion project.

Scratch Pros and Cons

Since I've been on Scratch for a while I've decided to make a pros and cons on Scratch. Another reason why I want to do one is because I did a pros and cons on Atmosphir and want to do one on Scratch to compare both programmes. On this pros and cons on Scratch, clearly Scratch had more good things about it than bad. The results are like the Atmosphir Pros and Cons as they both have around about the same amount of Pros and the same amount of Cons.

Today at Enrich 3/11/10

Today at Enrich after completing our co-operative game we continued with our passion projects. I went straight to continuing with my Scratch game. After working for about a hour and a half I completed it. I learnt that you could add photos from the internet onto your scratch game. I also learnt what variables you can make and how to use them. I continued updating my passion project process keynote and started a Scratch Pros and Cons.

Today at Enrich 27/10/10.

Today at Enrich I watched another tutorial on Scratch. I also continued updating my keynote I'm using to record my process. I made my plan for the Scratch game I'm making(which is posted below) and then I started making it. Beside here is an image of one of my Scratch games I've already made.

My Scratch Plan

Since I changed to Scratch I have to make a plan on the game I'm going to make. Having plans is good because when you make your game you will know the storyline and you are managing your time efficiently.

Today at Enrich 20/10/10

Today at Enrich I looked up tutorials on Scratch and I found some I'd recommend. I continued updating my project process. I spent quite a bit of time experimenting with Scratch. Next week I'd like to do some graphic organisers which will sort out my pile of information.

Today at Enrich 13/10/10

Today at Enrich I recorded the last bits of the process of Atmosphir that I needed to do on my blog. I also continued updating my keynote which I am using to record my process on the Passion Project. I also put more things on the blog( scratch workshop, habits of mind I've used so far in my passion project and my scratch prior knowledge which I recorded today).

Scratch Prior knowledge

This is my Prior knowledge. It says what I already know about Scratch. I'm doing Scratch because I feel that it is the next step on from Atmosphir on making a video game.

Habits of mind I've used in my Passion Project

Today I recorded three of the habits of mind I've used so far in my passion project. I've also said what I did to use the habits of mind.

Scratch Workshop with Connor

On week seven of the passion project I went to a workshop about Scratch. It was run by Connor who is a year 6 and is brilliant with Scratch. This is the learning he told me and what it made me wonder.

Today at Enrich 22/9/10

Today at Enrich I started experimenting with Scratch as I am moving onto Scratch next term.I finished off with Atmosphir. People from SIT came to see what we've done on Atmosphir. From SIT I learnt why Java is a good programming application. When I was experimenting with Scratch I found out a few things. For example where you would find the programming when you're wanting a character to change costumes.

Today at Enrich 15/9/10

Today at Enrich I uploaded loads of my learning onto the blog (some might be underneath this post). I also went to a workshop about Scratch (an application you use to make a game) which was run by another student at Enrich who's really good at it. After that I recorded what I learnt from the workshop and what the workshop made me wonder. We had a visit from the bus tour who were seeing what we do at Enrich

Atmosphir Pros and Cons

I evaluated the good things and the bad things about Atmosphir. There was six good things and five bad things. This helped me decide that I should now try other video game making applications to try and learn more about programming.

Computer Game Survey

This is my computer game survey. I asked people at Enrich what kind of game they like. Adventure clearly won.

New Learning From Ken

This is my new learning from when I saw the expert who came in. His name is Ken who works at SIT

Today at enrich 8/9/10

Atmosphir is a program you can make video games on. It is a program you can easily get addicted to. There is large range of props you can choose from.Tis picture is from one of the levels of my game. Today I did the pros and cons for this programme and I decided my next steps will be to finish developing this game them I will try to make a game on scratch.

These are some images of my games I've made on Atmosphir.

Teacher comment

Andrew you used used a range of habits of mind over and above the two you mentioned in your keynote for example you definitely took responsible risks as well as applying your past knowledge to the tasks in hand. The end result was a very well sculpted carefully painted mask that is a striking and unique piece of art. I will be interested to see what you choose to do with your new learning in the future? You clearly saw the link between the different types of art we tried and the overarching concept of systems. It was great to see your willingness to work on this talent area in your own time and to share your enthusiasm for what you were doing.

Talent Evaluation Diagram

This is an enlarged copy of the systems Inspiration on my Talent Evaluation keynote.

Talent Evaluation

This is my Talent Evaluation. It shows what I had to do to during my Talent Development. We got to choose from three topics art, science and computers. I chose art because it stood out to me, we made masks based on the legend of false face. On one of my slides there is a Inspiration on my Talent Development which shows the inputs, outputs, throughputs, feedbacks, and losses.

System Art

This is my systems art. It is a painting by me of cogs working together. Mine are a bit 3D because one cog is behind another cog.

Systems art diagram

This is a system diagram. It is about a piece of art about the cogs we painted and the process we had to go through. I did my system diagram with a partner.
